1. Too Much or Too Little
There are people who pay a visit to the gym a couple of days in a week and then blame their trainers and workout schedules for not
giving them the desired results. On the other hand, there are people who hit the gym twice a day in hopes of getting quick results. Your workout should be of optimum frequency and duration. There is no universal time which works for everybody. Therefore, it is something that you need to work on and identify over time. You should be focusing on what frequency and time suits you the best. Your workout shouldn’t be too easy and you shouldn’t be overtraining either. Feeling tired and sore all the time is a sign of over training, in which case, you should take a day off and give your body time to recover.
2. Your Body Has Adapted To Your Workouts
Our body has a tendency to adapt to things that we do repeatedly making it less difficult to perform the next time. Remember the first day when you entered the gym, lifting even a 10kg dumbbell was a big task for you, but now you start your first rep with that dumbbell. The benefits of progressive overload soon come to an end and you find yourself in a comfort zone. Growing is not done in the comfort zone. Push out of it. We put ourselves in the comfort zone after achieving a few initial results and are reluctant to change our workout pattern and learn new things. This is the reason why your workouts become less challenging for your body day by day and you stop experiencing any further results. If this sounds familiar, prepare a new workout schedule to train your muscles in a different way and see how they get into a sort of ‘result mode’ again.
3. You Are Changing Programs Too Damn Often
‘’I’ve got bored performing the same exercise for two weeks, I need something new”. These are the lines that are generally heard from newbies in the gym. While variations in a workout are good, some people don’t give enough time for the body to reap the benefits of a progressive overload from a workout program. They switch from one program to another and never get the desired results. You should stick to a program for at least 4 to 6 weeks for it to even work. Try sticking to a program for 4 weeks, at the very least.
4. You Going ‘Beast Mode’ In The Gym Will Outdo Poor Nutrition
If you think that lifting heavy dumbbells and running on a treadmill will outdo the binge eating and drinking sessions, you are dead wrong. No amount of working out will give you good results unless you compliment it with a good nutrition plan. Make a list of all the things are you are consuming in your diet, if you haven’t already and calculate the ratio of your macros and total calorie intake. If this does not match the target that you have been working towards, it is the time to change your nutrition plan.
5. You are following ‘’The Big Guy’’ Who Is Probably On Steroids
No matter what gym you go to, there will always be a guy who is better than you, either in terms of physique or strength. And, chances are that he will give you advice even if you didn’t ask for it. Understand that somebody else’s workout plan WILL NOT WORK FOR YOU. What works for that guy may not work the same way for you. He may have a different body structure, different muscles and various other things that may not suit your body. Who knows, he might just be on roids! Don’t get caught up in the shadow of the most shredded guy and bulked up dude, find what works best for you.
